Cristo Rey Miami High School broke ground Nov. 30, 2023, for a new, 38,000-square-foot academic building at its North Miami campus.

The school, located at 125 N.E. 119th Street, is part of the Cristo Rey Network of schools that exclusively serve low-income students from communities underrepresented in higher education and prepare them to attend college and graduate at higher rates than their peers.

Students at Cristo Rey work in a professional corporate environment five days each month to earn a majority of their tuition and gain valuable experience for life after college. They are transported to and from their work sites and must attend a three-week Summer Success Institute, a job training/school prep program.

Tuition at Cristo Rey ranges from $100-$750 annually based on each family’s income. 50% of tuition is earned by each student through the Corporate Work-Study Program; 30 to 40% is covered through one of the Florida Tax Credit Scholarships; 10% is covered by private donations; and families contribute to the cost of education based on financial ability.

The new academic building is projected to open in 2025. With this expansion of the campus, the school anticipates growth to a student population of 425.

Those present at the groundbreaking included Miami Auxiliary Bishop Enrique Delgado, representatives of the school’s Corporate Work Study partners, officials from the City of North Miami, and members of Cristo Rey’s Board of Trustees, including its chair, Rodger Shay, Jr., as well as school staff and students.

The Cristo Rey Network consists of 39 high schools in 24 states; 25,800 graduates; 2,664 corporate partners and 73 university partners.
